Whaaaat is this illegal downloading mess?

Methinks our legal priorities are getting a bit skewed.

This guy  just got fined $675 THOUSAND dollars for illegal downloads. Was he a wicked bootlegger? Nope. He’s a grad student who snagged ’em for personal use off a file sharing program.

What. the. hell.

I’m not a fan of file sharing programs. We don’t have one, we’re not getting one,  and my kids know they shall face the wrath of Mom like Hell hath no should they ever try to pull that crap. Songs are cheap, for pete’s sake. Soooo not worth a legal mess!

But what’s up with these ridiculous FINES? Last time I checked, nobody died from a Jonas Brothers download. Why would the courts ever allow people to be saddled with debt that may take a LIFETIME to repay for a non-violent crime?

I think our courts have forgotten to keep the main thing THE MAIN THING. There is a difference between violent and non-violent crime.

And on a completely unrelated note, any WordPress bloggers about? I am having SUCH a time with it the past few posts. Pictures keep screwing up big time. grrrrrr. Anyone else having issues?

  1. I have added comments to blogs and they seem to disappear. Of course I’m not bright enough to save them before clicking Submit, so if they’re gone, they’re gone.

    Which really blows.

As for the file sharing, what we do these days is simply more convenient and more easily accessed than back in our time, K. When things became public domain back in the day, you had to go hunt it down–physically. You could get films and songs and books, all kinds of stuff.

Having said that, a large part of what’s being downloaded isn’t public domain stuff. I don’t condone it, but it’s pretty ciral (to use a hip term–see, I try, but usually fall flat on my face).

  2. I might personally die (from boredom) from a Jonas Brothers download, but I agree…let’s concentrate on prosecuting those who are committing “real” crimes.

We once rented a house to people who ,unknown to us, turned it into a working meth lab. Once it was raided, it cost us thousands of dollars to clean it up, and that doesn’t count lost wages while we did so. Their punishment??? 72 hours in jail. Yup. 72 hours of a hand slap.

Yeah, don’t EVEN get me started on the messed up justice system!

OMGosh Kween! I can’t imagine!!! (Well actually, I can. Unfortunately.)

    You said it MSSC!
